RACE 1: WWW.THERACES.COM.AU HCP 1100m Fav: Kelly ($1.75)

1st WEATHER: Fine. TRACK: Good.

VOLTABOLTA'S connections must sick of the sight of KELLY - their genuine youngster chased home the Shovhog colt for the second time in a fortnight.

Just your typical fast maturing, fast-running two-year-old, Kelly bounced straight into a striking position outside the leader then asserted his superiority in the stretch. He always had the gallant Voltabolta's measure.

ST MARTIN, a $700,000 Danehill (USA) yearling, looked the part in the pre-race parade but a slack jump rendered him three deep for the duration. He ran a top race upon debut and will benefit with an increase in distance.

1. KELLY: Thommo's Australia Pty Ltd Syndicate, Mrs P M, Miss R C, Miss A J Thompson & G Hilton's b c 2y (Shovhog - Hot Legs) 57.5 6 (J Penza, Trainer: Gerald Ryan) eased across to settle 2nd, inclined to over-race travelling outside the leader (Species), ambled to the lead near the 300m then sustained a strong run to safely withstand the challenge of the second horse ($1.70 $1.85 $1.75 fav).

2. VOLTABOLTA: ch g 2y (Volcanic Prince - Talaq's Pride) 55.5 5 (R Brewer, Trainer: Lee Curtis) settled 4th one out and one back in the box-seat trailing the winner to the turn where he was taken three wide to improve, battled on gamely once asked to improve near the 300m but again found Kelly too strong when it counted (5.00 8.00) len.

3. ST MARTIN: b c 2y (Danehill (USA) - Marigot Bay (Ire) 55 7 (L Beasley, Trainer: Graeme Rogerson) eased across to settle second last, conceded far too great a start on the turn where taken wide to improve still in 7th spot, knuckled down in impressive fashion and gained ground on the first pair in the straight with the task impossible, good debut (3.00 4.40 4.00) len, len.

4. MAAJAY PRINCE: 55 3 (Brent Stanley) settled 7th, 6th on the turn where pushed along to improve, battled on without threatening (16.00 31.00 21.00 26.00) 2.1len.

5. SPECIES: 55 2 (J Innes) led and travelled kindly inside the winner until they turned for home where he was immediately under pressure, was quickly left behind by the winner then finished off his race at the one pace suggesting he may improve later over more ground (15.00 41.00) 2.2len.

6. Robrick: 55 1 (D Beasley) 3rd turn (9.00 12.00) 2.4len.

7. Rainbow Light: 54.5 8 (M Travers) 5th turn (31.00 201.00) 3.4len.

8. Noble Connection: 55 4 (D Beadman) 6th settling, 8th turn (18.00 41.00) 4.2len.

9. Quids For Pigs: 53.5 9 (R Quinn) 9th turn (81.00 501.00) 9len.

All started.

Time: 1m05.15s (last 600m 34.73s). Off: 12.31.

RACE 2: BIGPOND HCP (C3) 1200mFav: Falaise ($3.00) 1st

TWO successive favourites to get the cash and they will be more wins in store for this talented little fella.

FALAISE is a compact son of Grand Lodge (USA), possibly smaller than most of the breed. His mum Perle (by Night Shift-USA) wasn't all that big, like others in the clan.

This winner should give the pedigree a boost. Not only is he motoring to the line, he's motoring through up the class ladder - yesterday's sub-24s through the last 400m was exceptional.

Cut down in the final bound, SEEK THE TRUTH appreciated the cold ride. A hand higher than the winner, he attacked the wire rather than setting the pace and paddling late.

Promising INNINGS, easy in the ring, over-raced early and kept on tenaciously. He's now off for a spell.

1. FALAISE: Woodlands Stud Synd ch g 3y (Grand Lodge (USA) - Perle) 55 8 (D Beadman, Trainer: John Hawkes) eased back from the widest gate to settle sixth, was still sixth on the turn where now looking for the way clear, the run came near the 300m then he took time to gather momentum but hit the line very hard over the concluding stages in yet another impressive performance again suggesting he can only improve over further ($3.00 $3.40 $2.80 $3.00 fav).

2. SEEK THE TRUTH: br g 3y (Lujain (USA) - Royal Agenda) 54 1 (B Stanley, Trainer: Gerald Ryan) settled second last, still second last and looking for the way clear, the run came in time and looked the likely winner after stretching out gamely from the 250m but had no answer to the impressive winners late finish (6.00 8.00 6.00) hd.

3. SMART AND FAST: b c 3y (Shovhog - Cachelle) 54 4 (D Beasley, Trainer: Jack Denham) raced outside the leader (Jackass) to the turn, faced the breeze all the way but joined Jackass in the lead near the 200m, battled on but was unable to hold off the closing finish of the first pair (7.00 15.00 14.00 15.00) hd, hd.

4. JACKASS: 55 3 (L Cassidy) led travelling kindly inside Smart And Fast to the turn, refused to lie down when challenged near the 250m and only tired near the line with the gear and jockey change helping his cause (13.00 26.00) 1.1len.

5. INNINGS: 56 5 (R Quinn) 4th to the turn (2.80 4.40) 1.2len.

6. Ollie Vollie: 54.5 carr 52.5 2 (K Fujii) settled third and raced on the rails trailing Jackass in the run, was close enough if good enough but awkwardly placed when they turned for home, the run should be forgiven as he needed more room in the straight to do his best (4.40 5.50 4.20) 1.8len.

7. Work In Progress: 53 carr 50.5 7 (N Thomas) 8th to turn (101.00 301.00) 5.3len.

8. Sand Strike: 54 6 (J Penza) 5th to turn (15.00 26.00) 5.4len.

Scr: Century Serb (8).

Time: 1m10.32s class record (last 600m 33.85s). Off: 2:11.

RACE 3: ROXY HOTEL-PARRAMATTA HCP 2000m Fav: Lord Of The Land ($1.65) 1st

AFTER mixing it with the likes of up-and-comers Zipping and Break The Vault in Melbourne, LORD OF THE LAND returned to home territory and duly blew this lot away.

He's especially fond of the Rosehill circuit - five times the bay has ventured out west from his Randwick base and four times he has netted the fat cheque.

Always short in the betting, the bay ambled along in the ruck then walloped his rivals once Joe Fujii asked for maximum effort.

LOOKOUT handles a middle-distance better than most Snippets gallopers. Game, he simply struck a classier rival while one-batter EVASION couldn't capitalize on a head-start over the winner.

1. LORD OF THE LAND: G Harvey's b/br h 5y (Timber Country (USA) - Lady Capel) 57 carr 55 4 (K Fujii, Trainer: Anthony Cummings) steadied back to settle 7th, was ridden quietly until approaching the 700m where he was taken three wide to improve, followed Evasion into the straight and left that galloper standing when asked to improve soon after straightening and put the issue beyond doubt, at the same time he went on to record the most effortless of wins ($2.00 $1.65 fav).

2. LOOKOUT: b g 5y (Snippets - Lawarra) 54 6 (D Beasley, Trainer: Bede Murray) eased across to settle at the rear, followed Lord Of The Land in the run but could not match the winners acceleration on the turn, tried hard to wear down Evasion near the line and claim second spot (6.50 9.50 8.50 9.00) 3len.

3. EVASION: b/br g 5y (Octagonal (NZ) - Jouet) 56 8 (R Quinn, Trainer: John Hawkes) settled in 4th spot and enjoyed a good run racing one off the fence with cover until the 600m where he was taken wide without cover to make his move, at no stage once the pressure was applied did he offer resistance to Lord Of The Land after enjoying almost every chance (4.40 5.00 4.80 5.00) 3len, 1/2len.

4. BRAVE PLAYER: 53 3 (Mitchell Bell) settled 6th, 7th on the turn where pushed along to improve, failed to look a winning threat at any stage and was clearly outclassed by the first three (61.00 201.00) 9.4len.

5. FLYING NIKITA: 53 7 (D Beadman) eased across from the wide gate to settle second last, was still second last with the pace on near the 600m, unable to improve and plugged away in the straight (3.00 7.00) 9.5len.

6. Marscay's Image: 53 carr 52.5 9 (Ryan Maloney) 2nd settling, 3rd turn (31.00 51.00) 10.4len.

7. Talee Special: 53 1 (Dale Spriggs) led to the turn (61.00 301.00) 10.8len.

8. Beat The Tide: 55 carr 52 5 (N Thomas) 5th turn (31.00 61.00 51.00) 13.3len.

9. Ears' Ronny: 53 2 (Brent Stanley) 3rd settling, 2nd turn (21.00 101.00) 13.9len.

All started.

Time: 2m01.83s (last 600m 34.77s). Off: 1.50.

RACE 4: ROSETTI & STONE HCP (C3) 1200m Fav: Purple Dane ($2.20) 3rd

HERE'S the stereotypical member of the Snippets stock! Nifty sprinter THE HAMMER does have a few quirks but he's a workmanlike, slick, nuggety sort by the former high grade racehorse cum sire.

Turned out beautifully by Chris Waller, The Hammer had no concerns whatsoever with the energy-sapping heat and parked second outside WOLFMAN JACK before booting clear with a winning lead.

CLEVERGAZE emerged as the only serious threat inside the final 200m but, with the final 600m taking a mere 34.05s, making ground in a sit and sprint proved extremely difficult.

The same applied to PURPLE DANE which jumped moderately and came from near last. This robust specimen is running more like a 1400m to 1600m sort of horse.

1. THE HAMMER: Almavale Stud ch h 4y (Snippets - Gerber) 55.5 7 (L Beasley, Trainer: Chris Waller) raced outside the leader (Wolfman Jack) and raced keenly again without cover to, he held a slight lead near the 250m and battled on solidly from that point to withstand the closing finish of Clevergaze ($4.00 $4.40 $4.00).

2. CLEVERGAZE: b/br g 4y (Intergaze - Clever Caper (NZ) 54.5 4 (M Bell, Trainer: Rod Craig) settled 4th racing one off the fence, he enjoyed a good run to the turn, asked to improve soon after and made his run with the favourite, he kept trying from the 300m but conceded the winner a shade too great a start from that point (7.00 8.50 8.00) hd.

3. PURPLE DANE: br g 4y (Nothin' Leica Dane - Born In The Purple) 56 1 (J Innes, Trainer: Tim Martin) missed the start again and settled 8th after striking interference early, he was taken wide on the turn to improve and after briefly looking a winning threat when he gained ground quickly near the 300m failed to match the finish of Clevergaze when it counted (2.30 2.10 2.20 fav) hd,11/2len.

4. ARUNLUK: 55 2 (D Beadman) settled 5th, he saved ground in the run and was 4th on the turn, close enough if good enough, he battled away at the one pace from that point after enjoying almost every chance on the day (6.00 12.00) 2len.

5. WOLFMAN JACK: 53 6 (R Quinn) led to turn (26.00 101.00) 2.3len.

6. Twirling Heights: 54 carr 52.5 3 (R Maloney) settled 3rd and enjoyed the run of the race trailing the winner in the run to the turn where taken three wide to improve outside Arunluk, was asked to improve soon after but failed to look a winning threat when it counted despite enjoying every chance (9.00 13.00) 2.4len.

7. Nitrogen Narcosis: 54 carr 52 9 (K Fujii) 9th to turn (21.00 51.00) 2.5len.

8. Pentup: 53.5 5 (L Cassidy) 7th settling, 6th turn (10.00 17.00) 2.9len.

9. Catequil: 53 8 (D Spriggs) 10th turn (41.00 151.00 61.00) 6.2len.

10. Count Of Eight: 53 10 (D Beasley) 6th settling, 8th turn (16.00 31.00 21.00) 7.1 All started.

Time: 1m10.26s (last 600m 34.05s). Off: 2:30.

RACE 5: AHA BLACKTOWN HCP (C3) 1200m Fav: Chatoyant ($2.60) 5th

'COUNTRY GIRL' Barbara Joseph gave the city slickers some stick by saddling up the quinella.

BALLYBELLE may have been the longer priced runner of the duo, but her astute trainer considered her an excellent show and 'Barb's' judgement proved spot on. The winner zoomed- up from last at one point for a top win.

Whether this Beautiful Crown (USA) filly is superior to stablemate A COUNTRY GIRL remains to be seen. By top sire Singspiel (Ire), the runner-up vied for the lead, lost her position, regained the front then got the wanders. This is a highly promising racehorse.

KAKAKAKATIE railed and boxed on soundly ahead of MATILDA PRINCESS, yet another one by Snippets.

Strong form here.

1. BALLYBELLE: W J Sexton, Mrs P M Sexton, T A Sexton, Ms C L Sexton & Ms E K Sexton's b f 3y (Beautiful Crown (USA) - Ballybla) 53 10 (J Penza, Trainer: Barbara Joseph) eased across from the wide gate to settle last, still last on the turn where she stayed near the inside and saved ground as others fanned wide, she gradually gained ground between others from the 350m and nothing hit the line stronger over the final 50m as she claimed her more fancied stablemate near the line ($21.00 $51.00 $31.00).

2. A COUNTRY GIRL: b f 3y (Singspiel (Ire) - Verdict Declared) 53 carr 51.5 4 (K Fujii, Trainer: Barbara Joseph) settled 2nd, she gained some cover through the mid-stages then joined the leaders soon after straightening, hit the front near the 300m and bravely held off several challenges until near the line where eventually her stablemate proved too strong (7.00 9.00 6.50) nk.

3. KAKAKAKATIE: b f 3y (Zeditave - St. Kate) 54 2 (Mitchell Bell, Trainer: Patrick Webster) settled 6th, raced close to the inside all the way and like the winner saved ground on the turn, she battled away gamely looking a threat from the 250m but near the line the first pair were finishing the stronger (11.00 15.00 12.00) nk, 11/4len.

4. MATILDA PRINCESS: 53 11 (J Innes) eased across from the wide gate to settle 6th racing three wide with cover, was taken to the extreme outside on the turn to improve and battled away honestly without looking a winning threat (17.00 21.00) 1.7len.

5. CHATOYANT: 53.5 3 (D Beadman) settled 7th racing one off the fence, taken wide to improve approaching the turn where close enough if good enough, briefly challenged from the 300m but others finished off stronger over the final 50m (2.50 2.60 2.40 2.60 fav) 1.8len.

6. Star Mystic: 56 6 (L Cassidy) drifted back to settle 8th, asked to improve on the turn where 9th and travelling inside the winner, failed to look a winning threat over the final 300m (5.50 8.00) 3.9len.

7. Princess Iris: 55 9 (D Beasley) 10th turn (21.00 41.00 26.00) 4.3len.

8. Champagnat: 54.5 7 (R Quinn) 4th turn (16.00 20.00) 6.5len.

9. Enjoin: 55.5 8 (L Beasley) 9th settling, 5th turn (5.00 6.50 5.50) 8.7len.

10. She's Got Game: 53 5 (Brent Stanley) 3rd turn (31.00 91.00) 9.8len.

11. Lady Enzed: 54.5 1 (Dale Spriggs) led to turn (8.00 14.00) 19.2len.

All started.

Time: 1m09.90s class record (last 600m 34.55s). Off: 3.10.

RACE 6: NIVEA VISAGE HCP (C6) 1200m Fav: Dress Suit ($2.70) 1st

THE Snippets factor again! This time his grandson DRESS SUIT was to the fore and not for the first time.

By Pins, the Gai Waterhouse-trained chestnut now has a scorecard of six runs, four wins and two placings but if he was any chop, victory had to be his yesterday.

This good quality class 6 affair posted a dawdling first 600m figure of 35.81s so those positioned prominently enjoyed all favours.

Dress Suit is endowed with stacks of tactical speed and we now know he's chockful of character as OUR APACHE 'had' him 150m out.

The runner-up just seems more adept over 1400m and struck a nippier rival in peak form.

Returning from holidays, TACTFULLY and SHINES seemed 'new' and their late bursts impressed.

1. DRESS SUIT: Mrs V L Smith, D & Mrs B J Kefford & C A & Mrs A Williams's ch g 4y (Pins - Flight Queen (NZ) 55 6 (L Beasley, Trainer: Gai Waterhouse) went forward to settle in the joint lead on the rails inside Zacerada on settling, travelled kindly in the run to the turn then edged away to pinch what eventually became a winning break, battled on gamely to narrowly defy the closing finish of the second horse making it three straight wins since a spell ($2.50 $2.80 $2.70 fav).

2. OUR APACHE: ch g 5y (Humam (Ire) - Pine Lass) 56.5 2 (L Cassidy, Trainer: Bob Milligan) settled 7th, still 7th on the turn after saving ground in the run but now awkwardly placed, angled across the heels of the winner near the 200m and kept trying but needed to find clear running a fraction sooner to land the prize (3.00 4.00) nse.

3. TACTFULLY: br m 4y (Flying Spur - Discretion) 54 8 (D Beadman, Trainer: John Hawkes) angled back from the wide gate to settle 6th and raced outside Our Apache in the run, was handy enough on the turn but now looking for the way clear, the run came near the 250m and she briefly looked a winning chance but did make her run closer to the inside than most and all in it was a highly creditable return (6.00 4.60) nse, 3/4len.

4. BIPOLAR: 56 5 (B Stanley) settled 5th and raced on the rails with Our Apache trailing him in the run, loomed up near the inside at the 300m then battled away at the one pace until near the line where others finished off stronger (5.00 8.00) 2.3len.

5. GAZE ON: 54 9 (J Innes) 8th to the turn (26.00 41.00) 2.5len.

6. Majestic Feeling: 58 carr 56 11 (D Greville) 3rd settling, 5th turn (12.00 14.00 13.00) 3.9len.

7. Shines: 57.5 3 (M Bell) 11th to turn (51.00 201.00 81.00) 4.6len.

8. Zacerada: 56 carr 54 7 (K Fujii) pressed forward to race in the joint lead travelling outside the winner in the run, faced the breeze all the way to the turn and was quickly left behind when Dress Suit applied the pressure in the straight (17.00 19.00 16.00) 5.8len.

9. Mr James: 53 4 (D Spriggs) 10th to the turn (51.00 301.00) 7.2len

10. Bibury Court: 53 1 (R Quinn) 9th to the turn (101.00 201.00) 7.6len.

11. Brave Flyer: 56.5 10 (D Mc Lellan) 4th settling, 3rd turn (41.00 81.00 51.00) 9.7len.

Scr: Appalachian (10).

Time: 1m09.58s (last 600m 33.77s). Off: 3.50.

RACE 7: WYNDHAM ESTATE CUP 1100m Fav: Proprietor ($4.40) 3rd

GROUP 2 winner IMPALER relished the balmy Rosehill conditions yesterday and the firm terrafirma.

The Novocastrian has always operated best when there's little give underhoof and he sailed along a couple of lengths clear of the nearest pursuer before kicking home handsomely.

Try as he did, the smaller RESISTOR simply couldn't launch a serious bid alongside the big, bold-going chestnut. Bob Thomsen's runner-up is racing in the best form of his career, though.

Another Newcastle sprinter, PROPRIETOR rallied gamely but couldn't spot the classy winner several lengths start and what about the run of SPURUSON? The Queensland Grand Prix winner flashed-up late.

1. IMPALER: J R Warby, N G Farley, D J Crich, D N Evans, C J Reid, J H Bailey & A Quain's ch g 5y (Dracula - Catecombe) 60.5 carr 58.5 13 (W Pearson, Trainer: David Atkins) worked across from his wide gate to lead, gave others their chance by setting a solid pace then refused to lie down in the straight racing on the inside and defying all challengers when it counted in an excellent front-running display ($6.50 $7.50 $7.00).

2. RESISTOR: b g 5y (Danehill (USA) - Volte) 55.5 6 (R Brewer, Trainer: Bob Thomsen) settled 3rd racing one off the rails trailing Centre Fire, was taken three wide on the turn with Proprietor on his outside and both looked likely to gather in the winner soon after straightening but were unable to reel in Impaler near the line (4.60 6.00 5.50) 3/4len.

3. PROPRIETOR: b g 6y (Belong To Me (USA) - Kiss In Vain) 59 carr 57 8 (Ryan Maloney, Trainer: Paul Perry) crossed to settle 4th and trailed Resistor in the run to the turn where he was taken four wide to make his challenge outside Resistor, was asked to improve soon after and battled away at the one pace (4.00 4.40 4.20 4.40 fav) 3/4len, 1/2hd.

4. SPURUSON: 56 7 (L Beasley) angled back to settle 10th, was 12th on the turn where pushed along and covering ground, continually gained on the first three over the final 300m and is a horse to follow later over more ground (9.00 14.00 13.00 14.00) 1.7len.

5. JIVAGO: 57 carr 55 1 (K Fujii) drifted back from the inside gate to settle 6th, saved ground on the inside all the way and was 5th on the turn where close enough if good enough, made his run with Resistor but others finished off stronger (26.00 41.00 31.00) 1.8len.

6. Magic Marvo: 55 2 (D Mc Lellan) 9th settling 11th turn (17.00 26.00 16.00) 1.9len.

7. Centre Fire: 54 9 (L Cassidy) 2nd turn (26.00 81.00 41.00) 2len.

8. Mukareena: 55 14 (D Beadman) 5th settling 8th turn (15.00 26.00 17.00) 3.6len.

=9. Viovode: 54 3 (R Quinn) 7th settling 6th turn (8.00 9.00) 4.4len.

=9. John Syn: 56.5 4 (Mitchell Bell) 8th turn (15.00 19.00 13.00) 4.4len.

11. Lyn's Money: 54 12 (Dale Spriggs) 12th settling 10th turn (10.00 19.00 13.00) 4.5len.

12. Anabatik: 60.5 carr 57.5 5 (N Thomas) 9th turn (10.00 13.00 12.00 13.00) 4.8len.

13. Dial Tones: 54.5 10 (J Innes) 14th turn (15.00 26.00) 6.3len.

Time: 1m03.35s (last 600m 34.18s). Off: 4.30.

RACE 8: YOUNG MEMBERS PLATE (C6) 1500mFav: Ashkabar ($4.40) 2nd

YET another quinella from the Rosehill meeting of October 29. LEADING BID ran down free-running ASHKABAR on that occasion and nothing has changed, to roar of a vocal crowd the pair staged a thrilling finale.

The last was run at a cracking gallop - class record time in fact - and Ashkabar knows nothing more than to highball along and stretch a field right out.

Justin Sheehan had him well clear 300m out and angled wider on the course but handsome Commands gelding Leading Bid relished the true tempo. The bay just kept coming to pounce with flair. He's a real find in recent weeks.

Too keen for his own good, the runner-up keeps banking cheques and the best of the big finishers was SKY RIGHT which conceded a whopping start before shooting through along the rails late.

1. LEADING BID: M W O'Keeffe, L Marks, D A Monson, D S Karpin, N N Botica & D J Capelli's b g 4y (Commands - Best Percentage (NZ) 55 11 (D Beadman, Trainer: Bart Cummings) worked across from the wide gate to settle 5th racing one off the fence with cover, enjoyed the fast pace set up front and was ridden patiently to the turn where Beadman made his move, steadily gained ground with Ashkabar still well clear passing the 300m but with a well-timed run he wore Ashkabar down near the post ($3.70 $5.00 $4.40 $4.60).

2. ASHKABAR: ch g 5y (Ashkalani (Ire) - Welcoming) 58 13 (J Sheehan, Trainer: Rod Craig) worked across from the wide gate to lead with Catchadane on his outside, Sheehan tried to pinch it when he let his mount stride near the 750m and set up a sizeable lead, maintained that advantage until well into the straight and near the 200m the effort began to tell and was reeled in by the winner near the line (4.00 4.60 3.90 4.40 fav) 1/2nk.

3. SKY RIGHT: b m 5y (Hurricane Sky - Sounds Right (NZ) 54.5 carr 53 6 (D Greville, Trainer: Guy Walter) drifted back to settle 8th like the winner, enjoyed the fast pace set-up front and saved ground close to the inside on the turn, was asked to improve soon after straightening and kept closing (7.00 10.00 8.00) 1/2nk, len.

4. CATCHADANE: 59.5 carr 56.5 14 (J Parr) followed Ashkabar across and racing in second spot at the hindquarters of Ashkabar on settling, became a sitting duck near the 750m as Ashkabar was let stride and was now in the position of taking the field up to the leader, never looked a winning threat over the final 400m (26.00 17.00 18.00 17.00) 1.7len.
